The Hurtigruten Fleet

Let's introduce you to the Norwegian Hurtigruten fleet, and tell you something about the ships in this route today.

Most of them are modern ships, that gives you more like a hotel experience, but you can still travel on the old ship M/S Lofoten that is a traditional passenger ship of old age. You can read more about the Hurtigruten History here.

Let's start with the grand old lady, the M/S Lofoten, and from there you will compere size and capasity with all the other ships of the Hurtigruten fleet.



M/S Lofoten

Hurtigruten M/S Lofoten

M/S Lofoten was build in Oslo, Norway at Aker Mek. Verk A/S in 1964 and has a capasity of 340 passengers.  The ship has a total of 153 beds available for passengers.

Total length is 87.4 meters, beam is 13,2 and the ship has a max speed of 15 knots.

Gross tonnage is 2621

The car capasity is 0



M/S Nordkapp

Hurtigruten ship M/S Nordkapp

M/S Nordkapp was build at Kværner Kleven shipyard in Norway in 1996, and has a passenger capacity of 622, and a total of 458 beds.

Length of the ship is 123.3 meters, beam 19,5 meters and the gross tonnage is 11386.

The ship has a capasity of bringing 45 cars.

Maximum speed is 15 knots.



M/S Polarlys

M/S Polarlys was build at Fosen Mekaniske Verksteder in Sør-Trøndelag county in Norway in 1996. It has a passenger capacity of 619 and a total of 473 passenger beds.

Total length is 123 meters, beam 19,5 meters, and the gross tonnage is 11341.

The car capacity is 35, and the max. speed is 15 knots.



M/S Richard With

Hurtigruten ship Richard With

M/S Richard With was build at Volkswerft shipyard in Germany in1993, and has a passenger capacity of 623 and has 464 beds.

The ship has a total length of 121.8 meters, beam is 19,2 and gross tonnage is 11205.

M/S Richard With has a car capacity of 45.

Maximum speed is 15 knots.



M/S Nordlys

Hurtigruten M/S Nordlys

M/S Nordlys was build at Volkswerft shipyard in Germany in 1994, and has a passenger capacity of 622.  The number of beds is 469.

The ship has a length of 121.8 meters, beam is 19,2 and the gross tonnage is 11204.

M/S Nordlys has capasity of transporting 45 cars.

Maximum speed is 15 knots.



M/S Trollfjord

M/S Trollfjord

M/S Trollfjord was build at Fosen Mekaniske Verksteder, in Sør Trøndelag county in Norway in 2002.

The passenger capacity is 822, and it has a total of 640 beds.

The total length of the ship is 135.75 meters, beam is 21,5, and the gross tonnage is 16140.

M/S Trollfjord has a car capacity of 45.

The max. speed is 15 knots.



M/S Finnmarken

M/S Finnmarken was build at Kværner Kleven ship yard in Møre og Romsdal county in Norway in 2002.

It has a passenger capacity of 1000, and has 628 beds available for passengers.

The total length of the ship is 138.5 meters, beam is 21,5, and the gross tonnage is 15690.

Maximum speed is 15 knots.



M/S Midnatsol

M/S Midnatsol was build at Fosen Mekaniske Verksted in Norway in 2003.

It has a length of 135,75 meters, beam is 21,5 and it has a gross tonnage of 16151.

The passenger capacity is 1000, and it has 638 beds.

Car capacity is 45.

Max. speed is 15 knots.


M/S Vesterålen

M/S Vesterålen was build at Kaarbø Mek. Verk. in Norway in 1983.

The length is 108 meters, beam is 16,5, and the gross tonnage is 6261.

The passenger capacity is 510, and is offering 294 beds.

It has a car capacity of 35.

Max. speed is 15 knots.


M/S Kong Harald

M/S Kong Harald was build at Volkswerft in Germany in 1993.

It has a passenger capacity of 622, and has 474 beds.

Total length of the ship is 121.8 meters, beam is 19,2, and the gross tonnage is 11204.

The car capacity is 45, and it has a max. speed of 15 knots.


M/S Fram

M/S Fram was build at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy in 2007.

It has a passenger capacity of 318, and has 276 beds.

The length of the ship is 114 meters, beaam is 20,2 and the gross tonnage is 11647.

Car capacity is 0

Max. speed is 13 knots.

According to the Hurtigruten company's own description, the MS Fram

"is designed for sailing in polar waters, hold the highest safety standards and is the perfect size for optimum nautical manoeuverability and guests' comfort".
