The CM marking

the CM marking One very common marking among Norwegian Glass Fishing Floats is the CM marking. This is supposed to be Christiania Magasin in OSLO.

Christiania Magasin did not own their own production, but their Glass Fishing Floats seems to have been produced by different glass factories. It is known that Drammen Glassverk produced these floats at the beginning of the 1900’s, and I am told that also Hurdal Glassverk produced CM-floats. (Then again: Others are telling me that the Hurdal glassverk was closed down in 1808).

The marking is quite beautiful, and the letters are big and old fashioned. I have so far only seen these floats in dark green color, but of course there can be other types.

From the infosites of Wikipedia i have found that this was originally the Drammen Glassverk, owned by the same ownership that was behind the Hurdal, Biri and Hadeland Glassverk , which in 1898 became the AS Christiania Glassmagasin.

I'm sorry to say that I have not been able to find out much about this factory so far, or if it really is a brand, or if the producer was some other glass factory.

Our last presentation is Lofoten, the archipelago in Nordland County. Also take a look at our presentations of Svolvær, Stokmarknes and Sortland. Svolvær is the capital of Lofoten, while Sortland is known as the Blue Town of Vesterålen.

Stokmarknes is recognized as the "Home of the Hurtigruten", and here you also find the Hurtigruten Museum.
